Acceptable Documentation:
- Low-Income Energy Assistance Program - LIHEAP - Letter or utility bill. The bill must include a LIHEAP discount. The letter must state the applicant is receiving LIHEAP benefits.
- National School Lunch Program - Free Lunch Program - Must be a letter stating the person applying or a child in the household is receiving free lunch through the School Lunch Program.
- Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) - Must be a letter stating the person applying is receiving a Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) benefit.
Must be issued by a State Agency:
Copy of a letter from a government agency showing eligibility for the qualified benefit
- A letter from the school or school district verifying your participation in the National School Lunch Program - Free Lunch program
Qualification:
Benefit letters with a time frame must be valid during the time of the application. If the letter does not include a start and ending time frame, it must be issued within the previous 12 months or have a future expiration date.
- Letters must be issued by a state agency and the agency must be visible on the letter. Either the name of the agency or a logo.
- Letters need to include the issuing entity, subscriber name, and address.
Pictures of a picture or a screenshot are acceptable as proof of eligibility as long as they include all required fields. If the customer is using a screenshot from “yourtexasbenfits.com” it needs to include either the URL or the logo for it to be eligible.
